HP Has Solid Start To The Cross Country Season

Thursday, August 28 2014 - Stevenson vs Highland Park and Buffalo Grove

After a long summer of training the Giants were excited to get to their first meet of the season.   The team raced at Half-Day Forest Preserve against Stevenson and Buffalo Grove.   This was a good meet to see how the team stacks up against one of the top teams in the state (Buffalo Grove).  It was a solid start to the season with many guys having great races and a few had an off day.   The results showed that we have a strong 1-2 punch, but still need to close the gap after our second runner.

Senior Ben Casey led the way as he ran an impressive 15:11.8 for 3 miles to take 3rd place in the meet.   Junior Brett Davidson also ran very well as he finished 5th in 15:35.43 just behind Buffalo Grove's second runner.   Following them was sophomore Jonathan Rosenfeld who closed well and ran a 16:30.37.   Seniors Andrew Huddleston and Eddie Herz were the next two finishers for Highland Park (16:43.19 and 16:56.81).    They both know that they need to be up with or ahead of Rosenfeld to help reduce the 1-5 gap of 1:45 at this meet.   Rounding out the top 7 were senior Evan Lissoos, who had a breakthrough race running 17:13.26, and freshmen Nate Amster who ran a really good time of 17:15.64 in his first high school cross country race.

Overall, when comparing the results of this meet to last year, things are looking good for the team.   Our 1-5 and 1-7 gaps are better then last year and most of the guys that ran this course last year got significantly faster times this season.

Now the team must work to stay healthy and do everything it takes to bring their training and racing to the next level.   Everyone on the team needs to show that they are All In!
