HP Sweeps Another CSL Quad Meet

Thursday, October 8 2015 - CSL Quad Meet vs ME, DF, and MW

The Highland Park Boys Cross Country Team did not race for a few weeks but had some quality training during that time. The goal for this season's second CSL Quad Meet was to get out aggressively and pack it up. The team did a nice job of executing that strategy in the both races.

The varsity race saw senior Brett Davidson go right to the front with a very talented Maine East runner right behind him. After that was the HP pack! The pack of 7 guys went through the mile within 2 seconds of each other. In mile two they started to string out too much. It was freshmen Jose Reyes who was able to take control of leading the pack, but none of his teammates were able to hold the fast pace he set for mile two. Davidson started to gap the Maine East runner as he went through the second mile and looked very relaxed as the gap continued to grow. He was able to win by 22 seconds in 15:07 for 3 miles. Reyes was the number 2 finisher for the Giants as he ran an extremely strong race to take 3rd place in 15:58! He was followed closely by sophomore Nate Amster as he ran the fastest final mile for the guys in the pack to take 4th in 16:00. He was 6 seconds ahead of Deerfield's number one runner. Junior Jonathan Rosenfeld finished in 6th place running 16:14 despite racing with a really bad side stitch. Coming in right behind him was junior Charlie Skurie in 16:16 to take 7th place. After fading a bit in the 3rd mile sophomore Alec Glazier still ran 16:25 to take 9th place holding off teammate junior Matthew Casey in 10th place at 16:26. Casey was just one second ahead of Deerfield's number three runner. Senior Alejandro Gutierrez had a great bounce back race after dealing with a minor injury recently. He took 12th place in 16:34. The next finisher for HP was sophomore Fitz Laurie. This was his first race of the season after struggling to get through a painful knee injury. Laurie took it out a bit too aggressive in the first mile as he led our pack early on. He was still able to hang on for a solid 14th place in 16:49. Look for much faster racing for him these final weeks as he gets a few races under his belt. In the end the final scores were:

HP 17 - DF 44

HP 19 - ME 44

HP 15 - MW 50

This is the 9th straight CSL Quad Meet sweep for the Giants dating back to 2011. This is equivalent to winning 27 straight duel meets! Now the team must execute their race plan at the CSL Invite to win the North Division Championship!

In the frosh-soph race HP once again just ran their freshmen. They got out well and really have shown great improvement this season! Richard Heller took the lead from the start and was by himself the entire 2.05 mile race. He won in a really good time of 11:16. Heller was followed by two teammates as the Giants went 1-2-3. Aidan Rosenbloom ran extremely well as he finished 2nd in 11:32. He was followed by Jack Schulman who held off a charging Maine West runner by 4 seconds to take 3rd in 11:48. With the team sweeping the top three spots, they were able to beat the other teams in the race. Deerfield was close as they were only one point behind HP. The rest of the top 7 were Jack Casey (22nd, 12:43), Andrew Biondi (26th, 13:03), Matthew Dennison (28th, 13:22), and Noah Canel (31st, 13:46). These freshmen have a bright future if they continue to work hard and train year-round. The team scores were:

HP 29 - DF 30

HP 21 - ME 38

HP 27- MW 30
