Jonathan Rosenfeld and Zev Motew Win Individual Championships At CSL North Conference Meet

Tuesday, May 16 2017 - CSL North Outdoor Track and Field

Highland Park hosted the 2017 CSL North Conference Championship Meet. The Giants put together their best varsity line-up as several sophomores were pulled up to compete at that level. Despite what the coaching staff felt was a very strong lineup, the team fell short of their goal of winning a team championship at Wolters Field.

In the field events, the team scored in only 3 events with only one of those having two people score. That is something that has to improve next year to win a championship.

The Discus was an event that the team expected big points and got some despite a Deerfield athlete getting a big final throw to take the victory. HP was 2nd and 3rd with junior Zach Auerbach (141’1”) and senior Joey Sereda (137’10”).

Auerbach came back in the Shot Put to take 5th with a 43’9” toss despite rolling his ankle during the event.

The only other varsity points in the field events came in the Pole Vault. Sophomore Ben Kirsch came up big with a 12’1” personal best to take 5th place.

On the track the Giants had two champions. Senior Jonathan Rosenfeld ran away with the victory in the 1600 Meter Run in 4:30.16. He was over 9 seconds ahead of 2nd place. The other event winner was Zev Motew in the 300 Intermediate Hurdles with a time of 42.14. This came after he was beat by a Deerfield runner in the 110 High Hurdles despite running a solid 15.45.

Other events in which Highland Park Scored:

3200 Meter Run: Juniors Alec Glazier and Nate Amster took 2nd and 3rd with personal best times of 9:49.26 and 9:55.86.

100 Meter Dash: Senior Ben Davis was 4th (11.51) and junior Michael Menaker was 6th (11.63).

800 Meter Run: Junior Fitz Laurie finished in 3rd place with a 2:01.95 while senior Ben Bloom was 4th in 2:02.1.

110HH and 300IM: Along with Motew earning a 2nd place and 1st place, sophomore Joseph Beaudet had a tremendous meet as he also scored in both hurdle races. He took 4th in the 100HH (17.07) and 5th in the 300IM (45.62).

1600 Meter Run: Senior Matthew Casey took 5th place (4:44.65) to go along with Rosenfled’s 1st place finish.

200 Meter Dash: Menaker was able to get a 5th place with a 23.88.

The team’s best finish in a relay was 2nd place in the 4X200 Meter Relay (1:36.27). The team consisted of Davis, junior Andrew Derdena, sophomore Jonny Rossen, and Menaker.
