HP Throwers Have Big Day At GBS Indoor Meet

Saturday, March 14 2020 - Glenbrook South Meet w/Conant, GBN, and HP

The indoor meet at Glenbrook South provided HP with another opportunity to improve. The meet also helped show where the team needs the most improvement and/or additional depth.

The Shot Put was an event that the Giants shined in. The team was led by senior Charlie Kleiman with a 2nd place finish. He threw a 45’9.25”, which is over a foot further than his best throw so far this season and over 10’ ahead of last year at this meet! Junior Chris Lee finished 3rd with 43’10.5”. Sophomore Dylan Liss added over a foot to his personal best with a 33’8.75”. Sophomore Thomas Marquardt was a few inches ahead of his personal best at 33’6”. Freshman Colin Chase threw over 2.5’ feet past his personal best with a 29’6.75”. Freshman Darius Robinson threw 29’1.5” in his first meet. Sophomore Luke Sands was another thrower that was over 2.5’ past his previous best for the season. Junior Logan Feinstein threw 28’.5” which is nearly 7 feet further than last year at this meet! Sophomore Mac Nanberg freshman Caden Hellrung were both almost 2 feet past their bests with a 27’4.75” and a 25’6”. This was a big day for the throwers. They have been working hard and it is really showing in their performances. This crew knows with continued hard work and by trusting the process, they have much more improvement to come.

In the Long Jump, the team also had success. Junior Max Mauer competed in the event for the first time and jumped 18’6”! Junior Carson Rager also had a nice jump with a 17’4.75”. Junior Gabe Kirsch was at 16’2”. Sophomore Peter Soutsos got 15’10.25” while Robinson was at 15’8.25”.

The meet ended with the Giants having 6 4X400 Meter Relay teams competing. It was fun to watch the teams battle against each other with their teammates supporting them from outside the track. The team really showed their competitive spirit as each athlete in the event battled with heart. This meet was a good sign of what is to come for the team as the season progresses.
