Buffalo Grove Race Car Rally and Prospect Invite

Wednesday, October 26 2016 - Prospect Invite

The team did a split squad for guys not in the top 7.  The freshmen and sophomores competed at the Buffalo Grove Race Car Rally while the juniors and seniors raced at the Prospect Invite.

Race Car Rally:

In this very competitive invite the Giants had 3 runners earn race cars. In the freshmen race Jake Margolick continued to lead the team with a 23rd place finish. He ran 11:47 for 2 miles on the challenging course. The sophomores had two award winners. Jordy Mazza finished 24th (11:17) and Richard Heller was 25th (11:20).  This duo continues to show that they have the potential to significantly contribute on the varsity level the next two years if they are willing to make the commitment. Both the freshmen and sophomores struggled in their respective races as a team. They have the runners to develop into a strong varsity group through dedication and hard work. “Training beats talent over time.”

Prospect Invite:

Since the IHSA is no longer allowing time trials at State Series Meets, the team decided to add this invite so that the juniors and seniors can have another opportunity to get in one more race. The course did not produce fast times, but the GIANTS competed well and took 2nd place behind a strong Prospect program. The team had 5 runners earn trophies including 3 in the top 10. The team was led by senior Juan Estela with as he took 5th in 16:52. Seniors Ben Bloom and Hayden Schott were 8th and 9th at 17:08 and 17:13. Rounding out the award winner were junior Sebastian Arias and senior Josh Drummond in 28th and 29th (18:02 and 18:10).
