Reyes and Polydoris Lead The Way For Giants At EIU Showdown

Monday, August 27 2018 - EIU Showdown

The Giants had a small crew racing at the EIU Showdown this year. Senior Jose Reyes and sophomore Jason Polydoris got out with the lead pack. The duo then took the lead until Burlington Central’s top runner made a big move and started to pull away. As two Downers Grove North runners came up on Reyes and Polydoris they worked to try and close the gap on the leader. The top DGN runner pulled away and Reyes was able to hold on for 4th place in 15:55. Polydoris ran a strong race to stay in front of Jacob’s top runner to finish in 5th place with a personal best 16:04 for 3 miles. A great summer of training contributed to the quality results for these two hard working dedicated runners.

Freshmen Alex Brown had a nice start to his high school career with a 16:58 for 19th place. Junior Corey Fairchild ran in his first ever cross country meet and ran a quality race finish with a 17:36. Sophomore Jason Werneth ran well with an 18:08 while sophomore Max Friedman showed that his hard work is paying off by running 18:32. Next in was Jack Schulman in 19:10 followed by Ryan Rosenfeld in 19:47. Senior Andrew Biondi had a tough race with a painful foot issue but will bounce back once healthy.

Despite being short handed the team finished in 3rd place just 18 points behind Plainfield North.

The coaches are looking forward to have everyone ready to race to begin to see what the possibilities are for the team this season. Much work still needs to be done. Each team member must show they are committed to doing what it takes to be the best runner possible.
