Jason Polydoris Smashes HP Sophomore Outdoor 3200 Meter Run Record

Tuesday, April 30 2019 - Distance Night in Palatine

In the four years that Palatine has created and hosted the Distance Night In Palatine event, Highland Park athletes have had tremendous success! That HP tradition continued this year as sophomore Jason Polydoris qualified to run the 3200 Meter Run.

During the first lap of the race, Jason moved up just behind the lead pack of runners. At the end of the second lap, he realized that the pace was too slow and took the lead. Jason pulled the field along to get a respectable split through the 1600 (4:44.9) which was not as fast as Jason was hoping for. The second half of the race was a battle to maintain contact with the lead pack as they moved in front of him. They started to pull away and another run passed Jason with 200 to go, but he battled strong down the final stretch to reach his goal of running sub 9:30. His final time was 9:29.95! This is the new HPHS Outdoor Sophomore Record! Jason shattered the old record of 9:42.3 which was set in 2011 by one of the greatest distance runners in HP history, Jonah Hanig.

Jason has shown incredible commitment and drive to become the best distance runner he can become. He now holds the Indoor and Outdoor HPHS Sophomore 3200 Meter Run Records and he is not done yet. He is working hard to continue to drop his time so he can qualify for the IHSA State Meet. Look for more success to follow this tough young distance runner!
