HP Sees Improvement At Warren Invite

The Warren Invite took place on a sunny but windy Saturday. The Giants had many strong performances.

In the field events, the team continues to show improvement. The Pole Vault included to champions for HP. Senior Ben Kirsch won the varsity Pole Vault going over 13’0”. Sophomore Simon Auerbach tied for 1st for the frosh-soph with a vault of 9’6”.

Sophomore Brian Perry was 1 inch off his personal best in the frosh-soph Long Jump with a 16’10” for 4th place. Freshmen Jack Goldfeder was 5th with a leap of 16’9.5”.

 

Sophomore Carson Rager got a 31’11.5” for 3rd in the frosh-soph Triple Jump.

 

Highland Park took 2nd and 3rd in the varsity Discus with junior Charlie Kleiman (117’4” just 2 inches out of 1st place) and sophomore Chris Lee (106’7”). In the varsity Shot Put, Lee had a big personal best to win the event with a 41’11.5”. Kleiman was 3rd with a 38’11”.

On the track, the meet got started with a combined frosh-soph and varsity 4X800 Meter Relay. HP only had a frosh-soph relay team. They ran very well and ended up winning the race in 9:29.5! The team consisted of sophomore Jason Werneth (2:21.3), freshmen Alejandro Seiden (2:22.9), and sophomores Alec Livney (2:25.2) and Tyler Carlson (2:19.8).

 

The sprint relays are just beginning to put together their handoffs for the outdoor season. They had some solid handoffs with work still to be done.

 

In the 110 Meter High Hurdles, junior Eduardo Monk had the fastest time for the team with an 18.7. For the 300 Intermediate Hurdles, Monk also had the fastest time for the Giants in 47.2. Freshmen Mateusz Zubrzycki took 2nd in the frosh-soph race with a 48.9.

HP had two runners place in the frosh-soph 100 Meter Dash. Sophomores Josh Hollander and Lucas Ugaz were 5th (12.6) and 6th (12.8). In the varsity race, sophomore Jaden Holzman ran a personal best 12.0 to take 3rd place.

 

After a strong performance in the 4X800, Livney came back to run another 2:25.2 to take 4th in the frosh-soph 800 Meter Run. Seniors James Wagenblast and Jordy Mazza took 3rd (2:11.9) and 4th (2:12.8) in the varsity race.

Sophomore Mason Goldstein took 4th in the 400 Meter Dash (1:00.0) while freshmen Joshua Longo ran a big 4 second personal best to finish in 1:03.0. In the varsity race Jakob French ran :54.2 to finish in 3rd place.

The 1600 Meter Run had several good performances. In the varsity race sophomore Jason Polydoris ran 4:38.6 for 3rd place while junior Corey Fairchild ran a personal best 4:54.9 to finish in 6th place. In the frosh-soph race, freshmen Alex Brown stayed with the leader until he pulled away in the final lap to win the event in 5:08.4. Freshmen Hunter Kells was 3rd in 5:25.1.

Hollander came back with another strong race taking 4th in the 200 Meter Dash with a 25.3.

The highlight on the track was the varsity 4X400 Meter Relay. French got the team started with a strong :55.4 as he handed off to Max Marmitt. Marmitt got the baton around the track in :57.9. Wagenblast was next and ran a great leg to get the team within range of the leader. He then handed off the baton to Mazza for the anchor leg. Mazza got out extremely fast and kept that pace going down the backstretch to take over the lead. He held that lead to the line with a :53.3. The final time for the Giants was a season best 3:41.7!
