Jacob Both is Shot Put Champion at 12 Team Freshmen CSL Invite

Sunday, March 17 2024 - CSL Frosh Indoor Invite

For the 2nd year in a row, the CSL had a combined (North and South Division) freshmen indoor conference invite with all 12 schools. HP competed well against some really strong track & field programs.

Field Event Highlights:

Jacob Both continued his success in the shot put this season with another personal best performance. He had an over 2 foot improvement from the last meet. Both became the CSL Champion in the shot put with a throw of 37’8.75”! Justin Lopez threw near his best with a toss of 30’0.25”. This was good enough for 8th place in the event.

The long and triple jumpers did not earn any team points but performed well with several personal bests. Preston Reed had his best jump of the season with a 15’7.75” mark. Gabriel Jackson was near his best mark with a 14’9.75” jump. Both HP triple jumpers got big PRs. Luca Ritchie had a jump of 29’4” while Jackson got 28’9.25”.

In the high jump, Jayden Corchado got a personal best and cleared 5’1”. This was good enough for 7th place. Jude White cleared a height of 4’9” to take 10th place.

Track Event Highlights:

Abel Reese and Joaquin Martinez raced the 3200 meter run. They did not have their best day in the 20 lap race, but gave solid efforts. Reese ran 11:50.01 and Martinez finished in 14:05.36.

Corchado was able to take 6th in a very competitive 50 yard dash field. He ran a time of 5.96. Mishkin Filstrup ran 6.12 and finished 12th.

Maksar Oyurskiy ran the 800 meter run in 2:58.27 for a personal best.

The HP 4X160 meter relay squad hoped to place despite the 4 members of the relay never racing this event together yet.  Filstrup had a strong lead off to get good position in their heat. Corchado was the 2nd runner and he blazed his lap of the track to build a lead on the field. Both was next and was able to hold the lead. Jonathan Blidee was the anchor leg. He ran well, but Maine East had an extremely fast anchor leg that caught him right at the line. It turned out that Maine East had cut inside the cones on the curve and were DQed. One other team beat HP from the fastest heat and the Giants ended up 2nd overall! They ran a time of 1:23.95.

Jackson raced well in the 400 meter dash to take 4th place in :58.24. Reyden Edeyaoch ran 1:06.15 for his first time running the 400.

Elliott Schraub had a strong race in the 50 meter low hurdles to run a personal best and take 6th place. He was the top finisher from the north division in 9.35. Reed also ran a PR with a time of 10.38 for 11th overall and 4th in the north division.

Reese came back to battle tough in the 1600 meter run. He finished in 5:38.19 for 10th place in the race and 3rd from the north division. Martinez also doubled back from the 3200 and ran 6:15.13.

In the 200 meter dash, Filstrup ran :25.90 for 8th place. Blidee ran a personal best :26.69 for 11th place.

In the 4X400, Jackson led off strong with a :58.3. Vasco Leite was next in 1:08.2. Reed subbed in at the last minute to help the team and ran 1:03.5. Schraub ran the anchor in 1:08.1. The team ran 4:18.47.

Overall the HP freshmen finished in 9th place as a team. They were 3rd for the north division teams. This crew showed they have some potential but need to fill out the line-up better and continue to improve as track & field athletes. It will be fun to see how much they improve by the outdoor CSL freshmen meet which will just be with the north division teams.
