Davidson Earns All-State Honors!

Saturday, November 14 2015 - IHSA 3A State Cross Country Championships

Highland Park senior Brett Davidson ran a great race at the 2015 IHSA 3A State Cross Country Meet!   He finished in 14th place with a personal best 3 mile time of 14:40.0 (official time before they rounded up was 14:39.95).   This was a tremendous way to close out a very successful high school cross country career for Davidson.   He has worked very hard to get to this point and has big plans for the upcoming track & field season!

The race went out very fast with the top team in the nation, Sandburg, wanting to make a statement.   Brett was able to get out well and was right with the lead pack.  His goal was to stay with the leaders as long as he could and attempt to finish in the top 10.   He went through the mile with the pack at a very fast pace.   As they went into the back loop, Brett was still hanging on.   After they exited the back loop, he was starting to fall off the the leaders slightly.   There was a period of time in which Brett was in a gap behind the main pack and just ahead of the chase pack.   As he continued to battle down the final stretch he was able to pass one final runner before he crossed the finish line in 14th place.    This is an incredible accomplishment for someone that did not even make the IHSA 3A State Meet last season!    Brett’s dedication to his training and the lifestyle of being a distance runner is what has made him so successful.   His mental toughness allows him to push himself when he is tired or when he is not feeling his best.   He has been such a wonderful example for everyone on the team as far as demonstrating and sharing what it takes to be the best runner you can be.   Brett’s leadership and character have helped make the Highland Park High School cross country program better.  All of his coaches, teammates, friends, and family are so proud of his All-State performance!    Congratulations!   Training truly does beat talent over time.
