Small Crew Competes at Glenbrook South Meet

Highland Park took a smaller crew to an open meet at Glenbrook South. There were several personal best performances. 

 

Field Event Highlights:

 

The Giants had 13 throwers in the shot put and 14 throwing discus. It was a bit of an off day for the throwers, but there were still several strong performances. Junior Larry Jenkins led the way in the shot put with a throw close to his personal best with a 47’3” toss. He also led the way for HP in the discus throwing 106’11.75”. Junior Alex Knight had a big day in both throws. Knight threw a personal best 36’11” in the shot put which is a 6 inch best. He then threw 92’9.5” in the discus. This was an over 10 foot personal best! Senior Jacques Munkhjargal threw his best of the year in the shot put. He threw 36’0” which is his first time throwing over 30 feet. Junior Noah Kogan also got his best mark in shot put with a 31’10” throw. Senior Aidan Tobias was another thrower that got a personal best in the discus. He threw over 49 feet for the first time with a toss of 54’11.5”. Several other throwers were near their personal bests marks for the season. 

 

In the jumps, junior Tyler Rosenthal led the way for the Giants by winning the triple jump with a 36’5” jump. He also was HP’s top long jumper going 17’0.25”. Junior Hugh Crawford got 17’0” in the long jump. Junior Ethan Love competed for the first time this season in the long jump and triple jump. In the long jump he got 16’10.75” and in the triple he jumped 35’1.25”. 

 

Track Event Highlights:

 

In the 100 meter dash, Rosenthal once again led the team. He got a personal best 12.3. Juniors Owen Murphy and Jose Martinez also got personal best times of 12.7 and 12.8. Senior Alex Labedz and sophomore Henry Suh both ran 13.9.

 

Junior Connor Edelstein ran 2:18.9 in the 800 meter run for 5th place. Freshman Harvey Hayes ran near his best time in 2:35.0.

 

Seniors Noah Jackson and Alex Bradshaw took 2nd and 3rd in the 400 meter dash. Jackson ran :53.3 while Bradshaw was :55.3. Junior Ben Kerch ran 1:01.3.

 

Junior Yonatan Garfinkel and senior Ramey Heimgartner both tied their season best times, running 5:06.7 and 5:59.3. Junior Ryan Griffith ran 6:12.8 while senior Marco Schulze just missed his personal best running 6:32.6.

 

Senior Diego Alvarez ran his best time in the 200 meter dash with a :25.1. Murphy came back with another personal best running :25.9. Edelstein ran his first 200, getting a time of :26.2. Love ran :26.3, Suh crossed the line in :29.4, and Labedz finished in :30.4. 

 

The 4X400 meter team ran well with Edelstein coming back right after the 200 to run 1:01.7. Garfinkel ran :59.7 for the second leg. Bradshaw ran an :55.5 to get the team to the lead. Jackson anchored in :55.9. The team ran 3:52.5.





The nominations for Giant of the Meet included:

 

Alex Knight - PRs in both SP and Discus. 36’5” to 36’11” in the shot put and 82’2” to 92’9.5” in the discus.

 

Connor Edelstein - 3 events, 800, 200, 4X400. Ran the 4X400 directly after racing the 200.
