Hatoum Wins 3 Events at New Trier Frosh-Soph Invite

The New Trier Frosh-Soph Invite includes separate events for freshmen and sophomores. It is a great opportunity for athletes to measure up against their grade level. Highland Park had some strong performances in both the field and track events.

 

Field Event Highlights:

 

In the freshmen shot put, Max Sukenik came in 3rd place with a throw of 32’9.75”. Constantine Soutsos was 5th throwing 31’2.5”. Sukenik was 2nd in the discus with a 90’7” toss to get two top three finishes. Soutsos also took 5th in the discus. He threw 74’1”. For the sophomores, Alexandros Drosos had a big day with two personal bests. In the shot put he threw 27’5.25” and for the discus he got over 70 feet for the first time with a toss of 70’1”.  

 

In the long and triple jump, HP had 3 combined top 10 finishers. In the sophomore long jump, Eli Perkins finished in 7th place jumping 17’8.75”. He also took 10th in the triple jump at 35’10.5”. Charlie Ludington took 6th in the triple jump with a jump of 36’10.5”. In the freshmen long jump, Matthew Nielsen just missed the top 10 by finishing 11th with a personal best 13’2” jump.

 

Track Event Highlights:

 

The track events got started with the HP freshmen 4X800 relay team taking 2nd place in 9:58.90. The team consisted of Gal Raviv (2:23.7), David Miller (2:33.1), Carter Ramirez (2:38.0), and Logan Liu (2:23.1). 

 

In the freshmen 3200 meter run, Henry Gamson ran a personal best 10:03.66 to take 3rd place. He was only 3 seconds out of first place. 

 

Sophomore Mateo Diaz ran a personal best 20.46 in the 110 meter high hurdles. 

 

In the 100 meter dash, sophomore Julian Chroman ran a personal best 13.14.

 

In the freshmen 800 meter run, Truman Evans ran 2:25.52 to finish in 4th place. In the sophomore race Brian Hatoum won easily in 2:01.63. Usiel Rodriguez ran 2:08.36 for a 4th place finish. The team finished in 5th place. 

 

The sophomore 4X200 meter relay ran a season best 1:43.32. The relay quartet took 5th place and consisted of Tyler DePaolo, Eli Perkins, Quentin Kelley, and Alejandro Jauregui. 

 

In the 400 meter dash on the freshmen level, Raviv ran :59.73 to take 4th place. Fin Nunez ran a 1:01.31 and finished in 7th place. For the sophomores, Eric Rojas ran a personal best 1:00.05, just missing going sub 60. 

 

Diaz came back in the 300 intermediate hurdles and was just off his personal best in :51.72. He ended up taking 8th place.

 

Logan Liu outkicked a Deerfield runner to win the freshmen 1600 meter run in 5:02.79. Lowell Redmond ran a personal best 5:30.72. Hatoum once again easily won a race as he took the victory in 4:35.68. Luke Byrnes also ran well with a 6:04.39.

 

Freshman Daniel Huicochea ran a personal best :25.39 to take 2nd place in the 200 meter dash. He has shown that he is one of the top young sprinters around. Hayden Tortora just missed his personal best as he ran :27.23. DePaolo also ran near his personal best for the sophomores in this event as Chroman ran :28.29. 

 

The freshmen 4X400 meter relay got a strong start from Truman Evans with a :59.9 split. Nunez split 1:02.4 while Raviv was at 1:01.5. Liu anchored in a 1:02.2 as the team finished with a 4:05.77 time for 2nd place. The sophomores ran very well and had a tight race with 3 other teams. Usiel Rodriguez led off with a :56.4 to put the team in great position. Quentin Kelley also ran well with a :56.2 split to keep the team in the lead. Eric Rojas fought hard to keep it close with a personal best :59.8. Brian Hatoum ran an incredible anchor leg for his 3rd event of the day and split a :52.8 to give HP the victory. The team ran 3:45.09. 

This meet showed that the Giants have a bright future, but also have many areas that needed improvement and help. The coaches are excited to see what the future holds for these young track & field athletes.

Henry Gamson - 11:03.66 PR in 3200 to almost win the event

 

Daniel Huicochea - 12.67 in the 100 and :25.39 PR in the 200 to take 2nd place

 

Max Sukenik - 3rd in the SP and 2nd in the Discus with PR of 90’7”

 

Sophomores

Eric Rojas - 4X100 anchor, 400 PR 1:00.05, helped 4X400 take 1st place in PR of :59.6

 

Alexandros Drosos - PRs in both the SP and the Discus

 

Brian Hatoum - 1st in the 800, 1st in the 1600, and anchor for 1st in the 4X400
