Solid Start For The 2012 Cross Country Season

Wednesday, August 29 2012 - Lake County Cross Country Invite

The Giants got off to a solid start to the season at the Lake County Cross Country Invite.   It was hosted by Wauconda High School at a new course at Lakewood Forest Preserve.  Highland Park finished in 2nd place just 6 points behind Barrington.  The team was led with top 5 finishes by three runners on the 3.05? mile course.  Senior Jonah Hanig took 2nd in 16:05.18 (just 6 seconds behind the leader), senior Emmett Smith came in right behind Hanig in 3rd with a time of 16:06.98, and junior Angel Estrada finished in 5th with a time of 16:12.15.  Sophomore Ben Casey had a strong race to finish in 17th place with a time of 16:39.28.    After that, the gap was too large.   Our 5th-7th runners were juniors Griffin Bojan (44th, 17:37.45), James Rector (50th, 17:49.69), and Jeremy Bloom (55th, 18:00.63).   These 3 know they must do better next time to help the team reach their high standards and goals.
