Rosenfeld and Laurie Win Individual Titles At BG Race Car Rally

Monday, October 27 2014 - Buffalo Grove F/S Race Car Invite

The Buffalo Grove Frosh-Soph Race Car Rally is always a fun meet for the freshmen and sophomores to run together for the final time each season. It is also a very competitive meet with some extremely strong cross country programs taking part in the meet.

Freshmen Race:

Fitz Laurie took it out strong and went right to the front. A small pack of runners went with him including teammate Nate Amster. Just before halfway, Laurie made a strong move to gap the field and they were never able to catch back up to him as he won the 2 mile race in 10:37.97. Amster fell back a little but still ran a solid race to take 5th place in 10:52.56. He was 7 seconds out of 2nd place. After that, Alex Frank took 21st place in 11:22.91. Frank pushed was aggressive early and was not able to hang on, but continues to show that he is willing to take a risk and put himself into good position in races. This will continue to benefit him throughout his running career. The next two runners in for HP were Danny Friedman (47th 12:17.91) and Sam Falberg (60th 12:29.79). These two have been solid top 5 runners for the freshmen team all season. The freshmen took 5th place in the meet behind Hersey, Downers Grove North, Lake Zurich, and Naperville North. The future looks bright for this freshmen class if they continue to work hard and make the commitment to be ALL IN!

Sophomore Race:

Jonathan Rosenfeld went right with the leaders from the start of the race. By the time he cam past the mile it was Rosenfeld and a runner from Buffalo Grove that were pulling away from the rest of the runners. With .5 miles to go Rosenfeld just kept pushing the pace and was able to break away from the BG kid and win by almost 23 seconds in 10:18.88. The next finisher for the Giants was Matthew Casey in 8th place (10:52.25). Casey has shown great improvement this year by working hard and racing with superb toughness. Following Casey was Charlie Skurie who also has shown tremendous improvement this season. He took 20th in 11:03.38. Not far behind him was Harrison Freeman who is another runner showing big improvement this season as he took 25th in 11:08.79. The fifth runner for the team was David Heller as he ran a very strong race to take 33rd in 11:20.6. Ian Goldberg (39th 11:33.79) and Hayden Schott (53rd 11:45.38) wrapped up the top 7 for HP. The sophomores took 2nd place in the meet behind a very good Naperville North team. The Highland Park sophomores have had their ups and downs with injuries and some inconsistent racing this season. As they get healthy and continue to work hard they will continue to be a very successful team as they showed in this meet!
