Edgewood Middle School sweeps cross country meet

Edgewood Middle School captured first-place honors on both the boys’ and girls’ levels at the District 112 cross country meet held Sept. 9 at Sunset Woods Park in Highland Park.

Edgewood placed five runners in the top seven to win the girls’ division with 23 points, followed by Northwood with 50 and Elm Place (which did not have enough runners for a full team). Edgewood duplicated the feat in the boys’ race, placing five runners in the top 9 to win with 25 points, followed by Elm Place with 48 and Northwood with 58.

Edgewood also collected the top individual accolades in each race. Katie Hull won the girls’ division, covering the one-mile course in 6 minutes, 52 seconds, while Micah Ellington captured the boys’ race in 5:59.

The rest of the top 10 finishers in the girls’ race included: Catherine Lanchak, second, Elm Place; Charlotte Nawor, third, Northwood; Amy Rogin, fourth, Edgewood; Emily Nielson, fifth, Edgewood; Marni Pine, sixth, Edgewood; Ali Insoft, seventh, Edgewood; Katie Jenks, eighth, Edgewood; Mallory Sonenthal, ninth, Northwood, and Chloe Hwong, 10th, Edgewood.

The rest of the top 10 finishers in the boys’ race included: Brandon Estrada, second, Edgewood; Ben Casey, third, Elm Placxe; Benji Rogin, fourth, Elm Place; James Rector, fifth, Edgewood; David Kessler, sixth, Northwood; Angel Estrada, seventh, Northwood; Liam Carter, eighth, Edgewood; Zack Zionts, ninth, Edgewood, and Jacob Zionts, 10th, Edgewood.
