Alec Glazier Setting GBS Field House Record In 3200 Highlights Strong Meet For The Giants

Sunday, March 5 2017 - Glenbrook South Meet w/Conant, GBN, and HP

HP competed in a quad meet at Glenbrook South. The team competed well with improvement in many events. The Giants also had several stellar performances.

Sprints:

The 4X160 Meter Relay had their best race of the season. Senior Ben Davis got the team off to the lead with a fast start and had a solid handoff to fellow senior Keith Greenwood. Greenwood got the baton to junior Ryan Brinks with another good handoff and holding the lead. The final handoff was to junior Michael Menaker and it was the best of the handoffs. Menaker brought it home for the win in 1:17.7. This is just over a second off the HP All-Time Top 10 List which is 1:16.4. With continued hard work and improved execution of handoffs, this quartet could become one of HP’s best sprint relays!

The 50 Meter Dash had three HP athletes given the same rounded up time of 6.3. It was Menaker, Davis, and Greenwood.

In the 200 Meter Dash Menaker and Davis lead the way as they both ran 24.5.

The team had several young sprinters racing in their first meet of the season. They had some nice efforts and the coaching staff is excited to watch them progress.

Hurdles:

HP only had two hurdlers racing at this meet. The two athletes are both freshmen and continue to improve and run well in the hurdles. In the 55 Meter High Hurdles, Eduardo Monk ran 10.0 while Maxwell Kaplan finished with a 10.5. In the 55 Meter Low Hurdles, Monk was 9.4 while Kaplan got a 9.8.

Distance:

Junior Alec Glazier was not happy with his 3200 Meter Race at the Antioch Invite so he was determined to come back with a better performance at GBS. He was able to do so despite having no body to push him after the first few laps. As the race progressed, Glazier used the runners he was lapping to help give him people to “chase” and catch by certain points throughout the race. In the end, he finished with a personal best 9:57.4. This time is the new Glenbrook South Field House Record! This now makes it two HP runners under 10:00 for the 3200 Meter Run as junior Nate Amster did so at the Antioch Invite.

The 800 Meter Run did not have the fast times the team was looking for, but three HP runners were sub 2:20. (seniors Matthew Casey 2:17.3, Josh Drummond 2:18.2, and Matthew Drummond 2:19.8).

The 1600 Meter Run had strong races by seniors Charlie Skurie and Hayden Schott. Both ran indoor personal bests for the event. (Skurie 4:53.2 and Schott 5:02.1).

Field Events:

In the Long Jump sophomore Jonny Rossen had a big breakthrough jump as he went 17’10”! Brinks had another solid outing with an 18’1” mark.

Junior Zach Auerbach led the way for the Giants in the Shot Put with a 42’ .5” throw. Senior Michal Steczek also had a big throw with a 41’11.5” mark.

Sophomore Jakob French cleared a new personal best in the Pole Vault as he went 10’0”.

In the High Jump, sophomore Jack Casey got over 5’6” for the first time and then proceeded to clear 5’8”! He also had some good attempts at 5’10”. Looking forward to see Casey and Greenwood (5’6” personal best) excel in this event!

The team is looking forward to the Deerfield Dual coming up next week! The Giants should have everyone healthy and ready to compete against a very good Deerfield team.
