Monday, October 31 2011Tom Newell (HP Class of 1979), who ran 14:35 for 7th place in the 1978 IHSA State Cross Country Meet, is now coaching cross country in Colorado. He coaches at Telluride High School. The girls team finished in 3rd place while the boys finished in 4th place in the 1A-2A Colorado State Meet. The boys team included Tom’s son Dylan (a junior) who finished in 19th place.
On 10/27/11 Matt Black (HP Class of 2009) of Eastern Illinois University ran an 8K Time Trial. He ran a PR of 26:19.
On 10/29/11 Cornell College runner Ben Swerdlow (HP Class of 2009) ran in the Iowa Conference Cross Country Championships. He finished in 74th place and ran 28:09.5 for the 8K course.
On 10/29/11 Jordan Atkins (HP Class of 2011) of Illinois Wesleyan ran in the open race at the CCIW Conference Cross Country Championships. He finished the 8K course in 29:15.41 for 71st place.
On 10/29/11 Elon University runner Ari Rothschild (HP Class of 2011) ran in the SoCon Championships. He finished in 44th place with an 8K time of 25:46.23. This time is now the ninth best on the Elon all-time 8K list.
