Team Has Good Showing At Maine East InviteSunday, March 4 2012 - Maine East Indoor Invite
Highland Park had a good showing at the Maine East Invite. The Giants finished in 4th place in the meet that was won by New Trier. The team had several event winners.
Junior Andrew Sledd continued his strong season as he once again tied a fieldhouse record. This time he ran the 50 yard dash in 5.4 to tie the Maine East Fieldhouse record.
Senior John Bricker had another outstanding meet winning the high jump at 6’4”. He has become very consistent and reliable this season.
Junior Jonah Hanig had a great race in the 1600 meter run. He led most of the race before being passed by a New Trier runner. He then took the lead back for good during the final lap and ran a 4:32.2. This time was less then a second out of the Highland Park all time top 10 list.
The Frosh-Soph 3200 meter relay ran fast splits to win the event in a time of 8:55.1 against a tough Glenbard East team. The Giants relay consisted of sophomore Griffin Bojan (2:13.3), freshmen Zack Goldberg (2:16.3), freshmen Ben Casey (2:15.8), and sophmore Angel Estrada (2:09.9).
The Frosh-Soph will have a quad meet on Tuesday. The team’s next meet will be the Deerfield Duel. It will be a tough and intense meet against a very good Deerfield squad.
