HP Runs Strong 4X800 Meter Relay At Spartan Relays

Friday, April 26 2013 - Glenbrook North Spartan Relays

The 2013 Spartan Relays was the first meet of the season with some warmer temperatures.   It was still windy (as it always seems to be on the North Shore), but that did not stop the Giants from having some good performances.

The highlight was the 4X800 Meter Relay.   The Highland Park team was going for a quick time to make sure they got into the fast heat at Sectionals.    Senior Jonah Hanig led the team off and put them into position right with the leaders in 2:00.9.   Junior Griffin Bojan went out faster then he ever has and was able to hold on for a lifetime best split of 2:02.3.   The third leg was run by sophomore Ben Casey.   He ran an terrific time of 2:01.0 to keep the team in 2nd place.   Junior Angel Estrada went out very aggressive in the anchor leg.   He was able to run 2:01.8 and hold off a fast charging New Trier team for 2nd place.   The final time of 8:05.8 is the 6th fastest outdoor 4X800 Meter Relay time ever at HP.

Other relays that placed in the top 3:

High Hurdle Shuttle Relay - 3rd, 1:09.0 (junior Benjy Rogin, senior Michael Delk, freshmen Ryan Kriozere, and sophomore Deven Greenleaf)

Middle Distance Medley Relay (200,200,400,800) - 3rd, 3:46.1 (senior Andrew Sledd, senior Josh Weiss, Rogin, and senior Jacob Perl)

4X1600 Meter Relay - 3rd, 18:13.1 (Hanig 4:30.4, Estarda 4:29.0, senior Emmett Smith 4:36.4, and Casey 4:38.4)

Pole Vault - 3rd, 41'6" (junior Alec Deer 10'6", sophomore Eddie Smoliak 11'0", senior Ethan Tannenbaum 10'0", and sophomore Sean Knapp 10'0")

The team finished in 7th place, just 2 points out of 5th place.
