Lake County Invite Summary

Sunday, May 5 2013 - Lake County Track & Field

The Giants competed at the 2013 Lake County Invite hosted by Lake Zurich High School.

Sprints and Hurdles:

Senior Andrew Sledd ran the 100 Meter Dash in 11.16 for the semi-finals and 11.2 in the finals to finish in 3rd place.

The hurdlers competed without junior Benjy Rogin who was resting a sore hamstring.   The 300 Meter Hurdles showed the bright future of this event with sophomore Deven Greenleaf taking 8th place in 43.08 and freshmen Ryan Kriozere taking 14th place in 43.96.   Kriozere’s time broke the freshmen school record set last year by Greenleaf.

Distance:

The expectations were as always very high for the HP distance runners coming into this meet.   With great competition and decent weather the team was hoping for fast times.   That did not happen.   The guys looked sluggish and unresponsive in most of the races.   Despite the less then stellar times, they were able to place well in several events.

The 4X800 Meter Relay team (junior Angel Estrada, senior Jacob Perl, junior Griffin Bojan, and sophomore Ben Casey) finished in 4th place with a disappointing time of 8:16.76.

In the 3200 Meter Run, senior Jonah Hanig was not able stay with the top two and finished in 3rd place with a time of 9:26.09.

The 1600 Meter Run was an event in which the HP distance runners showed some fight as Hanig and Estrada went out very fast right behind the leaders.   Hanig was able to respond to every move but was not able to match the final burst by the leader from Warren.   He finished in 2nd place with a time of 4:25.54.   Estrada finished in 6th place running 4:28.67.

Field Events:

This is still a major area of weakness for the team.   Despite some personal best performances, the Giants were not able to score much in the field.

The top field event performance was a 3rd place finish in the Pole Vault for sophomore Eddie Smoliak.  He cleared a personal best 12’6” for a strong finish in a large invite.

Highland Park is looking to come back with an even better display of competitiveness, desire, and teamwork at the CSL Championships coming up!
