Jonah Hanig Finishes 5th At Illinois Top Times Championships

Sunday, March 24 2013 - Illinois Top Times Championships

Senior Jonah Hanig finished 5th place in the 3200 Meter Run at the 2013 Illinois Top Times Championships.

Hanig was hoping to run under 9:20 on a fast track with good competition.    The race went out much slower then he had expected and hoped for.   He went with the lead pack through the 800 in 2:22 (was wanting to be at 2:17).   At that point the lead pack realized it was too slow and started to pick it up.   They made up some time, but still went through the mile in only 4:41.   After a strong middle mile of 4:39, the leaders continued to push the pace and Hanig was not able to match them and fell back to 5th.   He was able to come back on 3rd and 4th place and battle to the line to end up in 5th.   His time of 9:25.18 is a new school record for the indoor 3200 Meter Run and a nice way to cap off a successful high school indoor track career.

Jonah is always determined to work harder and race faster.   He will continue to work hard and run many fast races during his final high school outdoor season before he heads off to compete for Columbia University.
