Several Record Performances At Antioch Invite

Saturday, March 2 2013 - Antioch Invitational

The Highland Park team took its main varsity competitors to the Antioch Indoor Invitational at the University of Wisconsin Parkside 200 meter indoor facility.   The goal was to get some top performances at a high quality facility.   The Giants were able to deliver.

In the sprints, senior Andew Sledd continued his stellar season.   In the 55 Meter Dash, he broke the school record running 6.44 and finished in 3rd place.   Sledd also came back in the 200 Meter Dash and ran a 23.36 for 2nd place.   This time places him only behind Harrison Rose (22.8,23.2,23.4) on the HP All-Time Indoor List.

The HP distance runners were hoping for some fast times and records in the 1600 and 3200 Meter Runs.   The 1600 did not go as well as the team had hoped.    Senior Jonah Hanig was able to run 4:29.4 to finish in 2nd place.   He was hoping to run faster, but this time still puts him at 6th on the HP All-Time Indoor List for this event.   Freshmen Brett Davidson was shooting for the HP freshmen record but missed by just 1.4 seconds running a 4:46.9.    Look for that record to go down this season!

In the 3200 the three competing Giants delivered a special performance.    Hanig raced to the lead from the gun and pushed the pace all alone to run a 9:28.8.   This outstanding performance ties the school record.   Senior Emmett Smith was shooting to make the All-Time Indoor 3200 List and he ran his best race ever to do just that.   He also found himself racing with nobody near him.    He pushed himself to run 9:42.9 to place 2nd in the race and 7th on the HP All-Time Indoor List (and even threw up on the track after).     Also in the race, Davidson came back to go for the freshmen school record in this event and was able to accomplish that.   He ran a 10:19.7 to set the new freshmen record and place 7th in the race.
