Team Working Hard To Pack It Up In Meets

Tuesday, September 21 2010

The 2010 boys cross country team has been working very hard in workouts and logging some quality mileage.   The past three meets for the team have been good performances, but the team knows it must continue to train hard and smart to get better if it is going to reach its team goals.

9/11/2010  At the Peoria Woodruff Cross Country Invite the team had a great trip.   They became closer as a team and learned some valuable lessons on this overnight trip to the state meet course.   The varsity team was led by senior Ari Rothschild.   His time of 15:21 (17th place) tied for 8th on the Highland Park High School Top Times List for the Detweiller course.  The rest of the top seven finished in the following order David Britten (16:12), Jonah Hanig (16:19), Jordan Atkins (16:23), Ari Feldman (16:29), Ian Jacobs (16:32), and Emmett Smith (16:33).  The team placed 13th.
Another notable finish was in the frosh-soph race.   Freshmen Angel Estrada ran 17:56.   That is a really nice time for a freshmen running in his first race of the season.

9/15/2010  The first of our two CSL Quads was a real battle.   Up front it was Ari Rothschild versus Niles North's Kosta Papazoglou.  Ari was able to out race Kosta and run a 15:26 which puts him at 7th on the All-Time List on the Sunset Woods Cross Country Course.  It is the fastest time by a Highland Park runner on that course.  The rest of the Highland Park pack finished just behind the Niles North pack which gave Niles North the win.   The team had a four second gap from the number two runner which was Jordan Atkins at 16:24, to the sixth runner which was Ian Jacobs at 16:28.  Highland Park beat Maine East and Maine West with the strength of the pack.

9/21/2010  The second CSL Quad had HP facing GBN, DF, and ME at GBN.   Though the guys were feeling some fatigue, they never backed down.  The times were slow for the entire field, but the Highland Park Pack got the job done.  Highland Park had their top 7 runners in front of GBN's number three runner, DF's number two runner, and ME's number one runner!

Now it is a matter of staying healthy, training hard, and doing the little things to get to the next level!   Go Giants!
