Berk and Estrada Set Records at Lake County Invite

Saturday, May 7 2011 - Lake County Track & Field

At the Lake County Track & Field Invite hosted by Lake Zurich High School, senior David Berk continued to prove why he is one of the top vaulters in the state of Illinois.   He soared to a new Highland Park High School pole vault record of 14'9" to win the event.  David is an athlete that consistently performs at the highest level because he works very hard and is always focused at competitions as well as at practices.

Freshmen Angel Estrada stepped on the track in this varsity invite with the goal being to break the Highland Park High School freshmen record in the 1600 meter run.   He ran his splits to perfection and crossed the finish line in 4:42.75 to set a new freshmen record.   Angel is a tough racer who showed great confidence and focus for only being a freshmen racing in such a large high level invite.

The night had many other personal bests and several medalists.  Senior Ari Rothschild ran a 9:29.82 in the 3200 meter run to finish in 4th place just a few seconds out of first.   That time gives Ari the 7th fastest 3200 meter time ever run by a Highland Park High School athlete.  Sophomore Andrew Sledd raced against some of the fastest runners in the state for the 100 meter dash.   He showed great poise as he sprinted to a 6th place finish in the event.  Senior Ameer Ghouse finished in 7th for the 110 meter high hurdles and junior Alex Heymann placed 5th in the triple jump.
