Track Hosts OVC Championships This Weekend

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois will play host to this year's Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships this Friday and Saturday at O'Brien Field.  The Panther men and women have won four straight outdoor titles each.

EIU enters the championships with seven athletes ranked first in the OVC in eight different events.  The Panthers have a total of sixteen athletes that have posted a top two mark in the conference this season.

Senior runner Britney Whitehead ranks first in the OVC in a pair of events.  Whitehead is currently first in both the 1500m and steeplechase.  Joe Calio is second in the men's steeplechase times this year.

Dominique Hall is ranked in the top two in both men's hurdle events.  He is ranked first in the 110m hurdles and second in the 400m hurdles.  Teammate Daniel Trevor is first in the OVC in the 400m hurdles while teammate Lamarr Pottinger is second the 110m hurdles.  Jalisa Paramore is second in the OVC in the women's 100m hurdles.

EIU holds both top spots in the men's and women's pole vault led by All-Americans Mick Vikenand Jade Riebold.  Viken has the men's top mark and currently ranks 35th in the nation.  Riebold holds the women's top mark and is currently ranked fourth in the nation.  Eric Gordonis second in the OVC on the men's side.

Bryce Basting and Sean Wiggan give EIU the top two spots in the men's 800m run.  Basting ranks first followed by Wiggan in second.  Calvin Edwards is second in the OVC in the 400m.

David Johansson holds the final top spot for EIU ranking first in the javelin.  Condia Smith is second in the OVC in the women's javelin.  Maura Cummins is second in the women's high jump and Jared Diaz is second in the men's discus.

Competition begins at 12 p.m. on Friday with the discus in the throws area just south of O'Brien Field.  The pole vault begins at 1 p.m. inside the stadium along with the high jump and long jump.  Running events on Friday begin at 2:30 p.m. with the steeplechase.  On Saturday field events begin at 10 a.m. with the hammer in the throws area.  The triple jump inside the stadium starts at 11 a.m.  Running events begin at 1 p.m. with the 4x100 relay.

Seven men's teams and eleven women's teams will compete in the two day conference championship event.  Listed below is a top athlete from each school to watch this weekend along with their OVC ranking in that event.

Morehead State – Evan Childers, 5th in steeplechase
SIU Edwardsville – Ahmad Evans, 1st in 100m and 200m
Southeast Missouri – Reginald Miller, Jr., 1st in high jump and triple jump
Tennessee State – Royce Dates – 1st in long jump

Women's Teams

Belmont – Jillian Linklater, 1st in high jump
