Auerbach and Campos Each With Double Wins At New Trier FS Invite

Tuesday, May 5 2015 - New Trier Frosh-Soph Invite

The New Trier Frosh-Soph Invite is always a very competitive meet that gives the participating teams a possible glimpse of the future for their programs. Highland Park was able to see that they have some strength in the throws and distance events. They also have athletes in the sprints and hurdles that by getting stronger and continuing to work hard over time can develop into top athletes in their events.

The Giants had two double champions on the freshmen level. Zach Auerbach won the Discus by almost 15 feet as he nearly broke the 100' mark. He ended up with a best throw of 99'. Auerbach also won the Shot Put with a toss of 33'4” to win by just 1.5 inches. Damian Campos easily won the 800 Meter Run in 2:10.68. He then came back and battled incredibly tough in the 1600 Meter Run to narrowly win in 4:48.43, just .06 ahead of 2nd place.

The only other event champion for HP was Joey Sereda in the Sophomore Discus with a throw of 115'10”. The throwers also took a 3rd place in the Sophomore Shot Put as Michael Stecyzk threw 37'5.5”.

Nate Amster finished in 2nd place in the Freshmen 3200 Meter Run as he ran 10:31.1.

The Sophomore 800 Meter Run saw the Giants take 2-3 as Ben Bloom (2:08.14) and Alex Abreu (2:09.05) both ran strong races.

Cedric Gonzalez took 3rd in the Freshmen 100 Meter Dash in 12.17.

Freshmen Dennis Hinckleman continues to improve in every meet in the hurdles as he made it to the finals and took 7th place in the 110 Meter High Hurdles (21.29). He has a bright future if he commits to putting in the work over the next 3 years.

The Sophomore 4X800 and 4X400 Meter Relays and the Freshmen 4X400 Meter Relay all took 3rd Place in their respective races.
